Between a purposeful leader and a purposeful liar?

Between a purposeful leader and a purposeful liar?

Osun elections are just about 4 months away. We have three prominent candidates, but for reasons I do not wish to disclose here, I will only be making a comparison between two: the performing Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, and the imposed manipulator of the APC, Bola Oyebamiji.

As the election draws closer, Governor Adeleke has performed so remarkably well that even if he makes no fresh campaign promises, people will ordinarily still vote for him, because even the blind can see, the deaf can hear, and the dead can feel his undeniable impacts across Osun State. Despite these glaring realities, Governor Ademola Adeleke has gone further to clearly communicate his manifesto for a second term. He has consolidated his five-point agenda and elevated it into the Imole 2.0 vision, yet till this moment, Bola Oyebamiji has not even articulated a coherent blueprint to the people he intends to govern.

Bola Oyebamiji, instead of stating in unequivocal terms what he would do if elected governor, has chosen the path of falsehood and manipulation, seeking to mislead the very people he aspires to lead. For instance, the only thing in the public domain about him is the cloud of controversies surrounding his identity and credentials. Because of politics, an individual who was simply Bola Oyebamiji suddenly reinvented himself as Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji. This same man is also  distorting public perception by claiming he secured admission to pursue a PhD with an HND qualification.

Oyebamiji is a habitual peddler of falsehoods who should not be allowed anywhere near the reins of power. Throughout his political trajectory, he has been entangled in one scandal after another, and the people of Osun cannot forget how he presided over the most ignominious financial chapters in the state’s history. They cannot forget how he and Oyetola, the former governor, mismanaged Osun’s resources, leaving workers stagnated without promotion and refusing to pay salaries owed by a government in which Oyetola served as Chief of Staff and Bola Oyebamiji as Commissioner for Finance.

Adeleke, on the other hand, despite daunting financial constraints due to the seizure of the local government funds by the federal government, has continued to prioritise the welfare of Osun people, workers, artisans, students farmers and everyone. He has delivered substantial infrastructural development, to the extent that many are left in awe, wondering how such strides are being achieved. On numerous occasions, the governor has consistently engaged the people of Osun, clearly outlining what lies ahead for them.

But Oyebamiji only boasts of federal might, parading claims of how his party will rig elections and deploy the police and INEC to manipulate outcomes. In one of Bola Oyebamiji’s comments, he declared that the APC is facing a goalpost without a goalkeeper. If a governorship candidate can be so profoundly misguided, Osun people should not take him seriously. He has nothing tangible to offer; he is merely banking on those who will subvert the will of the people for him. But Osun people have outgrown such devilish machinations, we are resolute, and with all lawful and intellectual means, we will resist Bola’s evil plans.
