Former Oriade LG Chairman Taiwo Fatiregun Dumps APC for Accord Party*

Former Chairman of Oriade Local Government, Taiwo Fatiregun, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his decision to join the Accord Party, citing what he described as the party’s departure from democratic principles and the marginalization of loyal members.

‎Fatiregun made the announcement in a statement shared on his official Facebook page, where he said the decision followed a long period of reflection and consultations with political associates and supporters.

‎According to him, the APC under its current leadership has drifted from the ideals of internal democracy and has allegedly been hijacked by a few individuals who control the party’s structure for personal interests, leaving many dedicated members sidelined.

‎The former council chairman, who served Oriade Local Government during the administration of former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola, said he could not continue to be part of a political system that places personal gain above the welfare of the people.

‎Fatiregun also raised concerns about what he described as the misuse of funds meant for grassroots development, alleging that billions of naira allocated to local governments are being shared among a privileged few while communities continue to suffer from underdevelopment.

‎He further criticized what he called the growing influence of a single individual claiming to be the sole financier of the party, warning that such control could jeopardize the political future of millions of party members.

‎Explaining his decision to move to the Accord Party, Fatiregun said the platform represents a renewed commitment to internal democracy, fairness, and people-centered governance.

‎He called on his supporters, admirers, and lovers of democracy across Oriade Local Government and Osun State to join him in building what he described as a stronger and more progressive political movement.

‎The former chairman also disclosed that his official entry into the Accord Party will take place on March 13, a date that coincides with his birthday, which he described as a symbolic new beginning for his political family.
